Thanks to a recommendation from my friend Gonzalo Ramírez, I read the book "Nonprofit" by Martha C. Nussbaum. The book is fascinating for those who, like me, are integrated recite the role of education in our society. Nussbaum through reflections interesting, with good examples leads us through the maze of the discussion between the educational model for income or model for democracy. Likewise, the author takes us by hand through the educational theories of Tagore in India or Dewey in the U.S., not to mention the contributions to education and critical thinking Penzalotti, Alcott and Froebel.
reflection Nussbaum background is that the humanities should be part of current educational models insofar as they allow students to gain an inclusive worldview in which the globalization process implies that differences are valued and understood. This concept would end the communal way understandings of the world, leading to an understanding between North and South.
In sum, a fascinating book that allows for deep reflection on the relationship of the humanities in educational models that leads to a more intelligent and inclusive stance.
